Still later that night, 1650 (an Honour + Intrigue campaign)
It’s mostly about war. Civil wars in Spain, England, Ireland, Scotland, and one expected in France soon. The Ottoman Empire is at war with Venice. There is war in North Africa, Russia, and even China. The Pope is at war.
It’s also about scientific advancement. Airships are a common sight over major cities and steampunk technology is common among the elites who afford it. The intricate designs of dwarven engineers are being taught in universities.
Weapons technology is advancing. Matchlocks are a fading memory, wheel locks are obsolete, and flintlocks have just started being replaced by breech loading firearms.
Magic goes through periods when it is illegal, then legal, then illegal again. Right now it is legal but is always a source of fear and distrust (even when used by agents of the Church).
Non-humans are found in isolated, out of the way places but are becoming integrated into human society as mixed bloods become more common. Prejudice against them is strong, however.
The campaign will start in Marseilles and then move to Rome.
Characters may be human, angelkin, elf, or dwarf (The latter two species would technically be mixed bloods with a human ancestor/parent).
All characters need to be able to speak Italian.
All characters must be Catholic or be able to convince people that they are.
It would be useful to have a scholar, a mage, and a sailor among the group.
House rules
• Reverse the reload times and misfire chances for flintlock and wheel lock firearms.
• Staff damage is 1d6.
• Using a musket, rifle, or jezail from horseback inflicts a penalty die on accuracy.
New Careers
Skyship Crew
Skyship crews are skilled in weather lore, navigation by the stars, and the handling and repair of their technological air vessels. They gain one free language slot for each rank in this career. They may receive a combat bonus in actions during aerial combat.
New Flaws
Devout: the character is a committed worshipper of a religion and follows the tenets and beliefs closely. If they cannot fulfill their required devotions then they will seek to atone for this lapse as soon as possible.
Protects innocents: the character will take all possible steps to prevent harm from coming to innocent bystanders and others who might be at risk during a fight and will generally act in a kind and compassionate manner to those who are less fortunate in life.
