This campaign will take place mainly in one star system, with some of the action going to adjacent places. The rules will be regular 5e with a coat of paint over it to make it sci-fi.
Magic is all Psi, with any items needed for spell casting becoming Matrix Crystals of various sorts. Consumable spell components are Power Crystals for specific spells with the same cost as the magic equivalent.
There will be more focus on the local communities so interaction skills are recommended.
Characters will start at level 1 but will reach level 2 about halfway through the first session.
Don't select any equipment when you create your character, there will be a bit of scrounging going on at the beginning.
Arcana will be the main "science" skill.
Technical skills will be done with tool kits and will use INT or WIS, whichever is higher. In my 40 years or so in technical fields I saw that some people use analytical methods to fix problems and some were more intuitive.
The characters have volunteered to test the Biovector Personal Enhancement Program and are staying on the company campus going through tests and training.
