Across the western sea, far from the anywhere you know, are scattered tropical islands said to be all that remains of a land consumed by war and catastrophe. These islands are home to the remnants of the ancient people who lived here prior to the cataclysm as well as wanderers, explorers, exiles, and those seek to wrest a fortune from the unknown. There are farms, small villages, and fishing camps.
The islands themselves run the gamut from being barren rocky outcroppings to minor islets with a few trees to verdant islands shrouded in thick jungle or forest and infested with strange and often hostile creatures. Fragmentary ruins are seen often. Small coves, concealed beaches, and mountain fed streams are found along the shore of many islands.
Further west is an unexplored continent with waves crashing on a coastline embattled by cliffs, cliffs that mark where the land was torn and broken and fell into the sea.
D&D 5E
The characters have all been exiled from the Empire and marked with a magical tattoo that will kill them slowly and painfully if they return.
Characters start at level 2 and have no equipment. Any items that are required for their class (such as a wizard's spell book) will be held by the captain of the ship transporting them, to be returned when they have reached their destination.
The campaign will generally take place on remote islands and on the sea, with limited urban activity, if any. A background as a sailor may well prove useful.
The characters will be transported in chains and blindfolded to the island of Olboro, the west most port and city of the Empire, and transferred to the Kestrel under the command of Captain Shandry (male human) for the last leg of the journey.
