History of the region, available with a successful History roll of DC 15.
2200 years ago (approximately): This area was once the domain of the Mountain King, a being of great power who ruled over a wide domain from his lavish Hall carved into a tall peak. A coalition of foes came against him, besieging his mountain fortress and finally defeating his army of defenders. His last act was to cause the plains and forests and mountains to dance and shake and spasm. The land was torn and broken, old peaks brought down and new ones raised up. The invaders were crushed under stone and earth. There were no winners.
1400 years ago or thereabouts: the dwarven Steel Empire excavated extensive tunnels and towns under the twisted lands that intersected other, older caverns and underground ruins. In later centuries after the Empire collapsed other people dug down and made use of the dwarven works until a web of subterranean tunnels and chambers was woven under the land.
800-ish years ago: The Kingdom of Estalli expanded into the area and drove out the orcs living there, creating a Duchy. Dwarven engineers were brought in to build a stronghold and town that came to be called Brostig.
500 years ago, or maybe a bit less: The Kingdom of Estalli was swept away in the chaos of the Bone Wars and this region was reduced to wasteland.
300 years ago, more or less: The Red Vole clan settled in the area as part of the migrations caused by the War of the Blood Sisters and promptly faded into obscurity.
150 years ago, or a bit more: The Realm of Taragore expanded into the area and, finding it uninhabited, brought in settlers.
68 years ago: The region was incorporated into the recently created Barony of Halmaran. The ruined town was used as the foundation for a new community called Brandle Falls, which became the Baronial capital.
