Create new first level characters for the campaign. In addition to having 1000 credits to spend on initial gear, all characters possess some basic items (consumer backpack, personal comm, 1 set of everyday clothes, hygiene kit).
People taking the free recruitment passage travel in stasis modules, a specialised configuration of the standard cargo pod that can be easily transferred between spacecraft and can also be used as an emergency escape pod. All personal belongings are stored securely in a vault (located at one end that has to be accessed from outside the module) and passengers are issued a jump suit, slippers, and the key to their storage compartment. Normally passengers are brought out of stasis after the ship is docked and then allowed to collect their belongings.
Characters joining the campaign after it starts will be at the same level as the existing characters and with comparable resources.
House rules:
Space travel: Remote distance is double Vast.
Automatic weapons roll separate damage on each person hit in the cone. The shooter may use a controlled burst of 2 rounds per target in a cone.
Minions/mooks/cannon fodder have 1 HP and act at the end of the round.
Standard damage types: acid/A, bludgeoning/B, cold/C, electricity/E, fire/F, piercing/P, slashing/S, sonic/So.
New damage types: holy/H, necrotic/N, profane/Pr

Born Garreth Pykesson, Gar grew up aboard the Volantis Lateris with just his mother, Pykenne Haffsdottor. While normal kids might go to school, or watch educational vids on the Tri-D; Gar grew up at his mother's knee, spacing on the Fringe of Pact World Space. He learned all his skills 'playing games' with his mom; Connect the Dots in Engineering, Spot the Differences at Sensors, or Hide & Seek in the floor-rooms, whenever the red lights started flashing throughout the ship. By his early teens, Gar knew the Volantis like the back of his hand, and was finally becoming a help, instead of a hindrance; when Pykenne dropped Gar off at an orphanage and left, never to be seen again.
Life inside civilization, where his hard-learned talents were considered dangerous or, even worse, /illegal/ by his new social group; did not fit Gar well. For years, he managed to eke by in his humdrum existence; while the Fringe constantly called to him. When the Empire... "offered" Gar the Ticket Out; it took every ounce of his self-control not to jump directly into the cryo-tube, right then and there.
Unbeknownst to Gar; Pyke had not wanted to abandon him as an unregistered orphan of unknown decent, but her Legacy- and Gar's- had been about to catch up, and she'd had no choice. The genetic marker belonging to direct descendants of Science Police personnel is not an easy one to find, but someone had discovered Pyke's; and she would have been unable to guarantee Gar's safety as long as he remained with her.
